The webcam should work with most applications supporting direct draw/direct show video inputs. Just contact us if you have doubts regarding a specific app.

Camera specific details

The following table shows if the camera is connected via WiFi (and thus a WiFi adapter is required) and whether a second adapter (e.g. LAN cable) is required for the internet connection. The table also lists the measured delay (in seconds) and maximum resolution of the video stream:

Does the webcam support audio?

The webcam tool does not support audio. Please use a microphone for audio input. Update: The tool now ships with an experimental audio feature.

What resolution does my camera support?

The video resolution of different camera models is listed here.

How much delay has the video stream?

The video stream delay of different camera models is listed here. The delay is affected by the WiFi signal quality and number of connected devices. Also, we noticed different latency between various WLAN adapter manufacturers.

How can I stream to the internet when the WiFi is used by the camera? Do I need a LAN cable?

Many cameras create their own WiFi network. In this case you have to use a LAN cable, a second WiFi adapter, or a LTE connection for internet access. Take a look at this table which shows if you need a second adapter for the internet connection.

Does the tool work with GoPro Hero 4 and Hero 4 Session cameras?

Although we have successfully tested the tool with GoPro Hero 4 and Hero 4 Session cameras these cameras are officially not supported due to streaming problems and low video quality.

Are GoPro Hero 3 cameras supported?

GoPro Hero 3 cameras are not supported.

Can I stream from multiple cameras at the same time?

The webcam tool supports only one camera at the same time.

How can I control the camera's settings?

Please use 3rd party apps (for instance Camera Suite for GoPro) for changing the camera settings.

My GoPro Hero 8/GoPro Max WiFi does not show up. How do I activate my Hero 8 WiFi?

The WiFi of GoPro Hero 8 and GoPro Max cameras has to be manually activated. This can either be done with the original GoPro iOS/Android app, or with the WiFi Connector app.

The video gets choppy on macOS. How can I fix this?

macOS sends applications into a sleep state when they are in background. Please disable the sleep state for the webcam tool by entering "defaults write com.gopro2webcam.vcamtool NSAppSleepDisabled -bool YES" into a terminal window (without quotes).
